Finite Element Methods for Convection Diffusion Equation

This paper deals with the finite element solution of the convection diffusion equation in one and two dimensions. Two main techniques are adopted and compared. The first one includes Petrov-Galerkin based on Lagrangian tensor product elements in conjunction with streamlined upwinding. The second approach represents Bubnov/Petrov-Galerkin schemes based on a new group of exponential elements. It ...

Application of the Kudryashov method and the functional variable method for the complex KdV equation

In this present work, the Kudryashov method and the functional variable method are used to construct exact solutions of the complex KdV equation. The Kudryashov method and the functional variable method are powerful methods for obtaining exact solutions of nonlinear evolution equations.

A Particle Method for the KdV Equation

We extend the dispersion-velocity particle method that we recently introduced to advection models in which the velocity does not depend linearly on the solution or its derivatives. An example is the Korteweg de Vries (KdV) equation for which we derive a particle method and demonstrate numerically how it captures soliton–soliton interactions.

The Extended Generalized Riccati Equation Mapping Method for the (1+1)-Dimensional Modified KdV Equation

where p,q and r are arbitrary constants. We construct twenty five exact traveling wave solutions of the (1+1)-dimensional modified KdV equation involving parameter by applying this method. The solutions are presented in terms of the hyperbolic, the trigonometric and the rational functional form including solitons and periodic solutions. Moreover, it is worth mentioning that one of our obtained ...

A Multiscale Finite Element Method for the Fokker Planck Equation

In a recent paper, the authors developed the framework for multi-scale finite element methods for the solution of the multi-dimensional Fokker-Planck equation in stochastic structural dynamics. The Fokker-Planck equation governs the evolution of the transition probability density function of the response of a broad class of dynamical systems driven by Gaussian noise, and completely describes th...
